Classifications of Aerial Lift Platforms & Scissor Lifts
Scissor lifts consist of a series of crisscrossed steel arms, connected to create an X pattern. When the crisscrossed arms are extended, the platform is vertically raised. There are support railings along the lifting mechanism's edges in order to help secure the workers' tools and keep them safe.
The scissor lift has a low profile, best used for smooth surfaces such as hard dirt surfaces, concrete and pavement. These machines use either an electric motor or a combustion engine to be able to power the lifting mechanism and move the lift. The operator would have to move the lift itself if she or he has to travel horizontally, as the lift mechanism only operates the lift in a vertical manner.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
Rough terrain scissor lifts use the same lifting technology as a standard scissor lift. The main difference is that the rough terrain models feature a different base that is particularly made for uneven surfaces. These models also offer higher ground clearance and oversized all terrain tires. The rough terrain scissor lifts use 4-wheel drive in order to easily navigate through difficult and muddy terrain.
Telescopic Boom Lift
The telescopic boom lift uses a telescoping beam which raises both vertically and diagonally. This particular model has a small work platform that houses controls to be able to operate the boom. The controls function with a combustion engine so as to power the hydraulics which power the boom and move the lift. The telescopic boom lift has off-road capable tires and is an independent lift model.
Articulating Boom Lift
There are two telescopic booms on the articulating boom lift. These are attached with a moving elbow apparatus. This lifting machinery has a small work platform or a bucket which is equipped with hand controls to be able to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts which are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are available with either off-road or hard surface tires. These lifts are designed to be able to reach on top of and over top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
In order to lift a work platform vertically into the air, the aerial mast lift utilizes a telescopic mast. The lift is typically powered pneumatically or electrically and are self-propelled models. These machinery provide a great solution for working in high racks within narrow warehouse aisles. It is vital to note that aerial mast lifts are limited to vertical movement and are not recommended for off-road use.
Bud Bushnell founded Genie Industries during 1966, after he purchased the manufacturing rights to a material lift that operated on compressed air. The name Genie originated from the "magic in the bottle" which was used to raise and lower the hoist. This device really impressed a lot of customers and thus, the name was born.
Genie has moved into many new markets, as the need for lifts and work platforms grew. Over time, as the demand for new machinery to meet numerous applications grew, the company made itself known in many new markets. Like for instance, Genie went into making light towers, man-lifts, articulated booms, telehandlers and stick booms.
Due to the economic recession during the start of the 2000s, Genie decided to acquire a partner who had the same values. They partnered up together with Terex Corporation. This company has a history obtaining machine manufacturers throughout the world who proved to be a good business match. Genie Industries was sold in the year 2002 and became a part of Terex Corporation.
Because of the Genie name and its solid reputation in the workplace, it was determined to maintain the Genie brand name as part of the Terex Aerial Work Platforms. This was just decided after the first few years following the sale. Therefore, all Genie machines continue to be marketed under the Genie brand.
Genie takes pride in listening to their customers. The company is devoted to continually improving efficiency and quality and is also committed to lessening waste. Even long after the sale has been closed, the company concentrates on providing outstanding support. These are the very work disciplines that have made Genie a trusted brand over the last decades and continue to keep their reputation for top-of-the-line and quality machinery.
The Bi-Energy and DC machines provided by Genie offers quiet operation, emission-free even in the most delicate work environments. Where the machine must be driven significant distances, like for example within industrial situations, the Genie bi-energy system combines the power of a diesel-powered generator with the benefits of a 48V DC equipment.
As opposed to any of the different types of aerial platforms, telescopic booms offer greater horizontal reach overall. These machines are great for limited access areas in construction and other industrial environments. The Genie Telescopic S booms have been engineered to offer utmost productivity. These machines provide supreme traction and the drive speed\the drive speed and supreme traction you require to be able to travel around the job area and work site.
